People continue to debate the effects of CO2 on climate change. We think that debate misses the point.
To establish a level of environmental awareness, you need a starting point to understand the level of change over time. CO2 is a measurable component of the atmosphere that can be quantified and tracked over time as an indicator of change. It can also be monetized by giving it a value as a tradable commodity. Carbon credits, then, can act as a way to focus our attention on the effects of our personal and corporate actions on our environment. We think they can also show us that there is valuable "common ground" in the whole concept of energy efficiency.
At Glacier Bay, we have a very easy way to tie our products to the measurement of CO2. Every gallon of diesel fuel consumed generates about 22.2 pounds of CO2 according to the EPA. So a truck idling 2000 hours per year puts out over 17 tons of CO2. Take that number times about 1 million sleeper units in North America and you can see that an electric solution to engine idling reduction makes a lot of sense.
