Glacier Bay, Inc. Expands Production Capacity to Meet
Growing Demand
UNION CITY, Calif. (March 21, 2007) – Glacier Bay, Inc., developer and manufacturer of
eco-friendly OSSA Powerlite® diesel-electric propulsion systems and climate control
technology, is moving its corporate headquarters and production facilities to Union City,
California.
Glacier Bay has experienced a period of rapid growth, more than tripling its staff in 9 months, and
plans to continue at this explosive rate over the next 3 years. With the new OSSA Powerlite and
variable-capacity HVAC systems moving to full commercialization, expanding office and
production space had been a top priority in recent months.
“We are seeing a huge increase in demand for our clean technology energy products in the
marine industry and transportation sectors. This new building will support a major expansion of
our operations,” stated Kevin Alston, Founder and Chief Executive Officer. At more than 60,000
sq. ft., the new facility quadruples the size of the previous Oakland facility.
The new location “is attractive for employees and their families,” Alston observed, “We are thrilled
with the new facility. It’s in a commercial district with easy access to major highways, the San
Mateo Bridge and the West Bay. Union City is centrally located and lets us easily recruit from the
huge pool of high tech workers in Silicon Valley.”
Extensive upgrades to the building reflect the latest infrastructure and technology. Russell
Whitney, Chief Operating Officer, detailed some the transformations: “We built new office suites,
a showroom to display our products, new labs for our engineers…Production work areas were
designed to support ‘lean manufacturing systems’ capable of scaling up production by a factor of
50.”
In explaining the company’s expansion and positioning for a leadership role in environmental
technology, Alston summed it up this way, “The future of Glacier Bay is huge. With excellent long
term investors now secured, a powerful set of clean technology products ideal for our energyconstrained
world and now a wonderful facility that meets our expansion needs into the next
decade, Glacier Bay is truly poised for greatness.”
