ClimaCab® Electric APU Provides Low Maintenance Engine-Off HVAC Solution
UNION CITY, California – (October 22, 2009) – Indiana based National Distributors
Leasing, Inc., a privately-owned dry van transportation and logistics company known in
the industry for consistent, on-time service, reduced its idle time by 88% to 3% with the
ClimaCab® no-idle HVAC system.
Andy Ness, Director of Maintenance for National Distributors, explained, “We’ve
determined that about 25% fleet-wide idle time is about as far as you can go, even with
monitoring and incentives.” But the EPA SmartWay Transport Partner wanted to go
further, and concluded that an idle-reduction technology was required. To keep fuel
expenses down and maintain driver comfort, the company decided to add ClimaCab
electric APU systems and is glad it did.
“On trucks that have the ClimaCab system installed, our idle time is only 3%. It’s pretty
simple – those trucks don’t idle,” stated Ness.
ClimaCab is an electric APU that uses no fuel, has no emissions, and requires no
maintenance. Finding an idle-reduction technology that would not give the company
“maintenance headaches” was essential. Ness commented that National Distributors
was hesitant to add diesel APUs to their trucks because it was like adding another diesel
engine.
“All the new gadgets look like they’d really help you out, but every time you add one,
you’re adding problems maintenance-wise. But with ClimaCab, we get a technology
advantage that has virtually no maintenance,” said Ness.
