The $81M fleet chooses Glacier Bay’s ClimaCab® all-electric, no-idle heating and cooling
solution on all its new 2009 model trucks
UNION CITY, CA – November 18, 2008 – West Side Transport, an EPA SmartWaySM
Transport Partner, exceeds EPA standards using Glacier Bay’s ClimaCab® all-electric,
no-idle solution in its fleet. Fuel savings, minimal maintenance, driver comfort and zero
emissions were all key factors in choosing Glacier Bay®.
Power management – an overlooked element of all-electric systems – is what truly
differentiates Glacier Bay and makes the ClimaCab product line a complete solution.
Combining nineteen (19) years of groundbreaking development in power management
technology with high efficiency thermal management, Glacier Bay now offers the
trucking industry longer run times and superior in-cab comfort – without the operating
costs of diesel-powered APUs. Powered by four deep-cycle Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM)
batteries, ClimaCab intelligently directs the flow of energy between power sources.
Utilizing the existing truck alternator, ClimaCab also extends battery life by charging at
factory set algorithms during normal truck operation. The ClimaCab product line uses no
fuel, requires no upkeep and is completely emissions free. Glacier Bay provides a
proven technique in eliminating all extended idling, saving truck fleets millions of dollars
per year.
West Side Transport’s decision to install Glacier Bay’s all-electric Radiant Heat Panels,
rather than traditional fuel-fired heat, aligned perfectly with their environmental initiatives,
and was a testimony to their commitment to driver comfort and to further reducing emissions.
Radiant heat is significantly more effective than standard heating methods since heat
output remains unaffected by either air currents or poorly insulated sleeper cabs. To
optimize driver comfort, the heat panels are mounted over the bunk to warm the driver
directly for over ten hours ― operating silently, without the use of fans. The all-electric
solution draws minimal battery power, requires no maintenance and reduces a fleet’s
carbon footprint more than conventional idle-reduction technology.
“When making the effort to move away from burning fuel, you need to consider both
heating and cooling,” stated Kevin Rankin, Director of Maintenance at West Side
Transport. Glacier Bay affirms overwhelming driver acceptance, and feedback from the
field reveals superior performance, even in extreme heat or below freezing temperatures.
Powerful Performance
Glacier Bay’s unique approach to power management enables ClimaCab to operate at
peak efficiency ─ whether heating or cooling the truck’s cab. “I have drivers reporting 21
hours of cooling runtime on a single charge, without the curtains pulled,” remarked Rankin.
Glacier Bay’s patent-pending, intelligent control software maximizes efficiency, allowing
the system to respond in real time to temperature changes and ever-changing load
requirements. Glacier Bay’s efficiency translates into longer run times, expending the least
amount of energy. The Power Management Module™ (PMM) charges batteries to preset
factory profiles, and its Start Assist™ feature helps eliminate jump starts by recharging fully
depleted starter batteries.

highest score awarded to Transport Partners. The rating reflects outstanding

score than in all previous years combined.
